Cost of HH for 2005

Blogged by riderpaul as Burning Man, Hammock Hangout, Paul, expenses — riderpaul Fri 12 Aug 2005 2:35 am

Sometimes I think I a crazy for doing this, but then again I have never regretted it after the fact…so I guess that makes it all worth while. There is some definite short term pain for long term gain. The biggest pain for me is financial. To off sett that ‘pain’ this year I am asking everyone who camps with me to contribute $50.00 to this years Hammock Hangout. It is not required, but it is good karma points:).

Just so people can see where the money goes I have an approximate budget. I will correct the values as the exact numbers come in. The estimated numbers are denoted with a tilde ‘~’. All the none tilde numbers represent money I have already spent. Here is the overview for 2005 so far:

Logs from Firewood Farms: Free
U-Haul to move logs from Half Moon Bay to Oakland: $171.97
Engine jack to hold up center pool while installing parachutes and crow’s nest: $162.36
Sewing Machine: $120 + $300 deposit
Sewing supplies: $39
Hammock material from Scrap (this year): $45
Steel cables for center pole: $282.56
Auger stakes to replace broken ones: $64.95
Transporting logs, crowsnest and matts to the Playa: $???
G11 parachute: $342.29
Chain (5/16″) for cable and turnbuckle (18 1′ sections + 18 bolts): $54
Crows nest reinforcements: $100.00
Crows nest safety equipment: $196.15
Ladder rungs (40x): $0
Paul’s out of pocket expenses: ~$1578.28

These expenses do not include the 8 roles of parachute line, the solar lights or decor items that Richard has generously contributed to this years Hammock Hangout.

It also does not include and of my regular Burning Man expenses or the 75 hours of lost wages that I will incur during the set-up and clean-up phases. That does not include the 48 hours lost during the event.

Please make your $50- camp contribution payment if you are part of the Hammock Hangout camp…or if you are a lover of the Hammock Hangout! There are three options:

  1. make a PayPal donation using click here
  2. send a check to 2126 15th Street, San Francisco, CA 94114
  3. Hand me $50- or whatever you decide to contribute
